The BEST Movies of the 1980s

Writer's picture: SofiaSofia

A lot of people love 80s movies, but I've got strong opinions when it comes to which ones are the best. So here we go with my top 5 movies from 1980s in honor of WLTL's upcoming 1980s themed Rock-A-Thon fundraiser!

  1. Dead Poets Society (1989)

I say Dead Poets Society because the plot just brings me in. The theme is meaningful, emotional and realistic! The entire movie teaches people to be creative and find their own way.

  1. Princess Bride (1987)

This movie was one of my first 80s movies I’ve watched. It brings back so many memories of my family and I watching it together, sometimes eating popcorn but most of the time just being invested in the movie. It might be a little cheesy but it's cute and exciting.

  1. The Blues Brothers  (1980)

This one is just so upbeat and funny at the same time. Always love watching it with my mom! If you haven’t seen it, it's super fun and exciting to watch. Plus as a bonus you get to see what Chicago looked like back in the day because it was all filmed here!

  1. The Breakfast Club (1985)

It’s such a classic! My family and I have a lot of references we quote pretty much once a week from this movie. Once I got into high school I thought detention would be like that. I haven't gotten detention though so still I have no clue.

  1. Sixteen Candles (1984)

This has to be my number one! I’ve been watching it pretty much my whole life. It just makes me super happy. The soundtrack is just one of the best. The whole movie is timeless! Very much recommended if you haven’t seen it before.
